La Vergne's City Administrator Resigns

La Vergne's City Administrator Steven A. Mayer submitted submitted his resignation Monday (11/28?2011) to pursue other interests.  Mayor Senna Mosley has accepted the resignation.  Mayer had been responsible for the day-to-day operations of the city since March.

Mayor Mosley said, “Steve Mayer is a very good emergency management teacher and we are proud that during his tenure nearly half of our city workers have been trained in Homeland Security’s incident command system."

During the past year, LaVergne has focused on increasing the number of police personnel and firefighters.  Additionally, upgrades in the water transmission system have begun and smoke testing will start in December to identify potential breaks in the sewer system. The infrastructure repairs and additional emergency responders will provide better services to the city’s population base which grew roughly 74 percent in the last 10 years.

The city administrator is the chief operating officer of the city, managing all departments including budget, planning, engineering, public works, and codes.  The position reports to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. 

City Recorder and Assistant City Administrator Bruce Richardson will serve as acting city administrator.  The La Vergne Board of Mayor and Aldermen will determine when to begin a formal search process at its meeting on Tuesday, December 6th.
