(MURFREESBORO) It was 2:10 early Wednesday morning (10/17/2018) when a Murfreesboro police officer was conducting a patrol check in a South Church Street parking lot. A car occupied by two persons fled the scene upon the officer approaching the car, hitting the officer as it sped toward I-24.

Murfreesboro Police Officer Amy Norville told WGNS that the patrolman approached the parked car and attempted to speak, but they were uncooperative and fled the scene. The officer was struck by the vehicle as it sped away. He was able to return to his patrol vehicle and attempt to stop them.

A pursuit continued down I-24 toward Manchester with deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office joining to help Murfreesboro Police. As they approached the county line, Coffee County deputies put out a tire deflation device to stop the suspects.

Once coming to a stop, Norville explained that the driver physically resisted arrest and a taser device was deployed in order to take Justin Arwood into custody.

In addition to Arwood, 25-year old Sarah Dalton was also in the vehicle. She had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for Violation of Probation.

34-year old Justin Arwood had an outstanding hold warrant and now faces additional charges of Driving on a Revoked License, Reckless Driving, Felony Evading Arrest and Aggravated Assault.

They were both booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

The Murfreesboro police officer sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
