(MURFREESBORO) A sunny Saturday (6/6/2020) ushered in a successful SATURDAY MARKETPLACE. Main Street Murfreesboro and Downtown Merchants present this event around the historic Rutherford County Courthouse from 8:00AM to noon every Saturday through September.

COVID-19 created a different market, but from what the 40-plus vendors were hearing, the public enjoyed the great selection of farm fresh produce, fruit, plants, herbs, jams-jellies, pickles-relish, soaps, hemp products, baked goods, local honey and more.

Main Street Executive Director Sarah Callender said, "For your protection--special new CDC guidelines were strictly adhered to, and the public said that they appreciated that. This includes social distancing, wear a mask, no dogs, one-way walking path around courthouse, don't touch products, only use vendor's bags, don't bring children, one person per family is recommended (reduce size of crowd)."

More About MAIN STREET

The Main Street Murfreesboro is affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center and follows the tenets of that program. Main Street capitalizes on the unique character of the courthouse square and the surrounding business district with the goal of transforming it into the cultural, social, professional and retail center of Rutherford County--in essence, the hub of community life.

The Taste of Rutherford

On Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 7-10PM the community has the chance to give back to Main Street by attending THE Summer Party, Main Street's primary fundraiser. This year's event will be at Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village, 312 S. Front Street.

This year's event will be a block party. Just $50 buys a delicious meal prepared by some of Rutherford County's best chefs, an open bar and music. Mark your calendars now.

Callender noted, "We are working to create a fun atmosphere at Cannonsburgh Village for the July 18th event, going back to our roots as a community, and providing space for attendees to spread out and enjoy a night on the grounds with friends, while enjoying the tastes and drinks that represent downtown Murfreesboro. Due to the unprecedented times with COVID-19, Main Street wants to show support to the downtown restaurants who make our annual "Taste of Rutherford" summer fundraiser so special. This year we will be giving back a portion of our dollars raised through this event to the downtown restaurants who participate in "Taste of Rutherford". Sponsorships for this popular evening are also available.

Again, the Saturday Marketplace is open every Saturday from 8:00AM until noon through the last Saturday in September. For more information, please contact Sarah Callender at Main Street Murfreesboro, 615-615-895-1887 or e-mail sarah@downtownmurfreesboro.com
