The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS), comprised of two hospitals, the Alvin C. York Campus in Murfreesboro and the Nashville Campus chaplains are offering a REBOOT Combat Recovery course. The 12-week trauma healing course will be held at the VA TVHS Nashville campus at 1310 24th Ave. S from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays starting September 5. Each evening will begin with dinner provided by a community partner.
The course incorporates spirituality as an element of combat recovery and provides practical help for Veterans and their family members who are dealing with the after effects of combat. A published study in Military Psychology links REBOOT Combat Recovery with improved mental, physical and social well-being. TVHS chaplains encourage the participation of spouses and loved ones because trauma impacts the entire family.
"The REBOOT mission fits right into what we do at TVHS," said George Adams, TVHS clinical chaplain. "These meetings and the relationships they foster are incredibly helpful to healing Veterans' families and restoring community."
REBOOT Recovery is headquartered near Fort Campbell, KY, where it was founded in 2011 by occupational therapist Dr. Jenny Owens and her husband, Evan. What began as a small group in the Owens' home has expanded to more than 250 U.S and international course locations.
