Here are a few ideas and places from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) that showcase Tennessee food and farms.
National Farmers Market Week -- What better time to visit local producers and purchase fresh food than during National Farmers Market Week. Pick Tennessee Products will be providing daily content throughout this week on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in celebration. Posts will include photos entered in the Pick TN Market Memories photo challenge, as well as a spotlight for the challenge winner. There are 162 farmers markets from across the state listed in the Pick Tennessee Products directories, and you can view the attached list to find a farmers market near you that participated in the challenge.
Katahdin Hair Sheep International Conference -- Folks from around the world will be visiting Tennessee Tech University from Aug. 15-17 to join the 15th Annual Katahdin Exposition, National Katahdin Sale, and International Katahdin Congress. Attendees will get to hear from renowned humane handling expert Dr. Temple Grandin and experience Tennessee's Katahdin farms.
Tennessee Farm Highlight: Stony Creek Colors -- Tennessee farmers produce food and fiber, and they're now starting to produce Indigo plants for natural indigo dye manufacturing as well. A recipient of TDA's Agriculture Enterprise Fund, Stony Creek Colors has the goal of working with farmers to produce 10,000-15,000 acres of bio-based indigo dyes in the next five years.
