(MURFREESBORO) City Councilmen Eddie Smotherman told NewsRadio WGNS that there is no way to say that Costco is moving to Murfreesboro. "No agreements have been reached, no contracts have been signed. . ."

The city has approved a bridge over the Stones River and I-24. It could move several investors to finalizing plans.

Smotherman underlined . . .

The city councilman noted that the aerospace factory was much closer . . .

Councilman Smotherman said that a third business was also nearing the announcement stage. It is a service company--mainly for the hotel and hospitality industry. He noted that they would also locate in the area that is being improved with the new bridge.

Again, the bridge has been approved--so we asked him to describe its location . . .

The $35-million bridge would cross I-24 between the exits at mile marker 78 (Old Fort Parkway) and 80 (New Salem Highway).

A satellite map clearly shows that there are large amounts of undeveloped land on both sides of I-24, where the new bridge will cross.

The old saying "it's not over until the fat lady sings" certainly fits this scenerio. It's not over until terms are agreed upon, contracts are signed and the myriad of other legal details are fulfilled. Smotherman emphasized, "That has not happened with Costco, but is much closer with the aerospace and the hotel-hospitality service firm."

To learn more about growth in the 'Boro, Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland will also be on the WGNS' Action Line next Wednesday morning (9/11/2019) from 8:10-9:00AM. In fact, you'll have the opportunity to phone and talk with the mayor on this monthly broadcast.

Here is the total interview with Murfreesboro City Councilman Eddie Smotherman . . .
