The state says that traffic volumes have increased by more than 60 percent in the Murfreesboro-Rutherford County segments of l-24. Furthermore, widening of the interstate is not financially feasible, nor would it solve the congestion issues along the corridor, according to the department of transportation.

The final phase of the project should be complete by the winter of 2023 (Phase Three).
