Helping Families of Special Needs Children this Christmas in Rutherford County

Every year at Special Kids, their family resources & development teams work to coordinate the Special Kids Cornelius Christmas program for multiple families that have children with special needs. The Cornelius Christmas program allows groups and individuals from the community to sponsor some of the families the local non-profit serve that are in the most need during the Christmas season.

"For these families, many cannot even think about Christmas gifts because their basic needs aren't being met," shares Sydne' Anderson, Special Kids Lead Family Resources Coordinator. "Even buying a winter coat can be a struggle for them, but it can also be the biggest blessing when we are able to match them with a sponsor who can provide it for them."

Sponsors are anonymously paired with a family and given a list of supplies that the family needs. Special Kids makes an effort to find sponsors that can provide necessities such as clothes, shoes, blankets, and household goods for the selected families while keeping everything confidential.

The goal is to match each sponsor with their family before the Thanksgiving holiday. Special Kids coordinators ask that sponsors drop-off their gifts at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro on Monday, December 9th, and/or Tuesday, December 10th, from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. They also ask that sponsors plan to spend approximately $100 per family member.
