(MURFREESBORO) West Jefferson Pike near I-840 reopened Wednesday (10/2/2019) after a big rig loaded with blocks flipped and spilled its load on the narrow, shoulderless heavily traveled roadway.

For years the traffic has outgrown this antiquated roadway. It is one of several thoroughfares in the states fastest growing community that has consistently shown-up on state reports.

West Jefferson Pike is not only narrow, but it is curvy and carries a large amount of traffic from Smyrna to I-840 and equally busy from that point to State Highway 231-North (Lebanon Pike).

West Jefferson Pike is closed for several hours Wednesday near Interstate 840 toward Smyrna because of an overturned semi-truck.

The truck spilled a load of cinder blocks on Jefferson Pike, said Sheriff's Deputy Chris Beach. The driver crawled out of the wreckage.

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated the driver before taking him to the hospital.
