You have recently heard past news stories about Murfreesboro and Rutherford County rescue workers heading to other areas to help communities affected by natural disasters, but what happens when similar things happen in our own back yard?

Rutherford County Public Safety Director Kevin Lauer told WGNS that our county helps other counties in times of distress...

Lauer said that one phone call is all it takes in order for Rutherford County to receive outside help in times of need...

Lauer is the very first Rutherford County Public Safety Director in our community. He was hired in June of this year with a salary of $106,000 annually and comes with 16 years of experience while working as a public safety consultant under the University of Tennessee. He was also the fire chief in Fairview, Tennessee.

Currently in Rutherford County (National Weather Service):

• FREEZE Watch Late Thursday Night Through This Friday Morning (10/31 - 11/01/19) The temps could go as low as 27 degrees.

• Localized heavy rain may continue through much of Thursday as well. The threat for localized minor flooding will continue until the first two days of next week.
