Shoplifting continues to be a costly crime for businesses throughout Murfreesboro.

Some of the more recent cases include a theft from Sportsman Warehouse on Thompson Lane. There, a man entered the new business and headed to the knife section. After picking out the right blade, he pocketed the $29 knife and left the store without paying for it. The suspect left the store parking lot in a pickup truck.

In another case at the same sports store, a man was caught ripping open a cardboard display box that contained a BB gun. Instead of putting the gun back into the box, the man stuffed the BB gun into his pants. When an employee confronted the suspect, he handed over the gun and ran.

At Walmart on Old Fort Parkway, a woman was seen taking various make-up items and then leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. The 31-year-old Bartlett, TN woman was caught by police and received a misdemeanor citation for the theft.

At Shoe Carnival on Old Fort Parkway, a general manager observed a female select a pair of high dollar Timberland boots, hide the boots in her oversized purse and then leave the store without paying for them. The woman got away in her Ford SUV and has yet to be caught.

Inside the local shopping mall on Old Fort Parkway, a theft that added up to $1,125 took place at the JC Penny store. A loss prevention worker told authorities that a female in her twenties brought shopping bags with her and quickly filled them with clothing. The woman not only filled the bags, but also got away with over $1,000 in Adidas and Nike brand clothing. She was seen leaving the all parking lot in a 2000 model Chevrolet Malibu.
