Rutherford County School Resource Officer Dustin Cox missed his elementary and middle school students so much that he reached out to read a book to them Wednesday.

The PTO president notified parents on Facebook Tuesday he planned to read the kindergarten, first and second grade students at Thurman Frances Arts Academy.

When Cox hooked up on Zoom, he found about 20 students giggling and waving at him from their home devices.

"It was outstanding to see their faces," Cox said a grin spread across his face. "It put a smile on my face."Cox read, "Officer Buckle and Gloria."

Listeners will hear the students talking to their beloved SRO throughout the story.

The SRO plans to read a book each week while the students are out of school.
