The spread of the coronavirus in recent weeks has forced people across the country to adjust their daily habits, from working at home to canceling social engagements. Murfreesboro Electric Department has been no different, and they want to assure their customers that they are taking the necessary steps to protect employees and the community they serve.
Earth Day a No-Go
Due to health considerations around the coronavirus, the Earth Day Celebration Planning Committee has decided to cancel the 2020 Earth Day Celebration. Since it is unclear how long we will need to avoid large gatherings, it was decided to not reschedule the event for later this year.
Working safely
As an electric utility, Murfreesboro Electric provides an essential service and continues to operate during this difficult period. However, MED is taking the necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of both their employees and customers.
Until further notice, the office will remain closed to walk-in traffic. However, the drive-thru service will remain open for customers who want to pay their bills at the office. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted at the drive-thru window.
The department is also taking all necessary measures to help employees work safely while providing the necessary service to Murfreesboro residents. The provider's facilities are cleaned and sanitized throughout the day to prevent the spread of coronavirus among staff.
Financial help
Murfreesboro Electric understands that the coronavirus has led to challenging financial circumstances for many of their customers. To help ease the impact of this crisis on our community, Murfreesboro Electric has suspended service disconnections until further notice for customers who cannot pay their bills.
If you are having a hard time paying your bill due to the pandemic, be sure to contact Murfreesboro Electric to discuss your account.
Please note that while service will not be disconnected, charges will continue to accrue. As a result, they urge customers who are able to make their payments to do so in order to avoid a large bill in the future.
