(La Vergne, TN) One person is in custody after leading officers on a pursuit through La Vergne. An officer noticed the car speeding on Fergus Road around 8:00 o'clock Thursday (6/11/2020) night.

After checking the license plate, he learned the car had been reported stolen out of Springfield, TN around noon.

The driver floored the accelerator and fled at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to pull the driver over, but the suspect continued to evade arrest

When the white Lexus coup drove into the Planet Fitness parking lot on Murfreesboro Road, he was surrounded by squad cars with the blue lights flashing.

The culprit was identified as 40-year-old Joel Amaya. He was taken into custody without incident.

Amaya has an active warrant for theft of a motor vehicle the Robertson County Sheriff's Office.

He was transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, and faces charges of theft of motor vehicle, felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and driving on a suspended license.
