(SMYRNA, TN) More on the single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred just before 5:00 o'clock Saturday (6/13/2020) evening at 568 Nissan Drive near Sam Davis Road in Smyrna. The driver of a small Dodge pickup truck failed to negotiate the turn, rolled several times and ejected the driver through the side window.
Forrest Weatherford Died
A Smyrna officer administered CPR to the 28-year old Smyrna man who was suffering from severe head injuries. Paramedics from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services pronounced Forrest Weatherford deceased at the scene.
28-year old Jonathan Phillips of Murfreesboro was the passenger in the truck. He was able to get out of the vehicle. Phillips was transported to the ER at Stonecrest Medical Center where he was treated for what is described as a minor foot injury and released.
Witnesses Describe Crash
The officer completing the investigation said that the truck went down into the ditch and up and embankment going air born over the entrance from Nissan Dr. to the Planet Fitness parking lot. It struck a stop sign and landed on its tires while continuing to roll over onto and made contact with the Chicago Express restaurant outdoor patio seating area fence. It slid on its top and made contact with another vehicle that was parked at the end of the parking lot. It then hit the curb and rolled back over and landed on its tires after going through the fence line at Meadowood Apartment complex.
The fatal crash report shows that the weather on Saturday evening was clear and dry. Plus, there were several witnesses who gave a description of what happened to the investigators.
Again, this past weekend a one-vehicle roll-over crash near the outdoor eating area at Chicago Express on Nissan Boulevard took the life of the pickup truck's driver--28-year old Forrest Weatherford of Smyrna. The passenger, Jonathan Phillips of Murfreesboro, suffered minor injuries.
