The area's first GPS Easter Egg hunt is scheduled in La Vergne on March 31st. In addition to the high-tech search around the area, there will also be a more traditional event at 9:00 that Saturday morning for children at the Veterans Memorial Park.
La Vergne Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Marler said, "We thought it would be interesting and challenging to offer our community the opportunity to tap into geocache adventures, literally a grown-up scavenger hunt.”
All egg hunters will first meet at Shelter A, next to the playground, for games such a bunny bean bag toss, guessing jelly beans in a jar, a spoon-egg race, and craft projects. For children ages 11 and under, thousands of eggs will be scattered at the football field atVeteransMemorial Parkand children will be divided into age groups for three grand prizes.
For the GPS egg hunt, directions will be available at Shelter A on March 31st from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. The hunt will last for two days and searchers will have the opportunity to take their photo at the cache site with the disposable camera located in the weather-proof cache box. Searchers who find the geocaches will register in the log-book at the site of the cache. For every log-in, the egg-hunter will be entered for a gift card drawing at a local restaurant.
“We expect hundreds of children at this year’s Easter Egg Hunt. It is always a fun day for the kids, but a great way to have family time, as well,” said Alderman Tom Broeker, chair of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee. “By adding the GPS egg hunt, children of all ages can now participate in this traditional spring activity. We aren’t sure what to expect as this is the first time we’ve tried this, so it is exciting to see if our community jumps on board.”
