Testing people for drugs as a condition to receive welfare money is an idea that is gaining ground in the state House. The measure was approved 11-6 in the House Health and Human Resources Committee on Wednesday. The companion bill has yet to be voted on in the Senate Finance Committee. According to the legislation, it would drug test welfare applicants who have been convicted of a drug offense within the past 5-years.
