2012 will be a year of change on the Murfreesboro City School Board. The top two vote getters in the city elections were the two incumbents, Butch Campbell and Nancy Phillips. Newcomers Dr. Andy Brown and Jared Barrett will join the board, filling seats of incumbants who chose not to run for re-election. Phillips says she looks forward to continuing to build on the city's proud legacy of educating young people...

Newly elected member Jared Barrett says he ran on three points he'd like to advance as a member of the school board...

More changes could come to the school board in August. You may recall, the City Council filled two vacancies on the on the board in recent months with the appointments of Collier Smith on Sept. 29, 2011 and Nancy Rainier on Jan. 12, 2012. Under past practice, those appointed to fill vacancies served out the duration of the term. But, a state law became applicable to Murfreesboro with the latest 2010 census numbers. Now, appointments are deemed interim and elections must be held. The special election will coincide with the county general and state primary set for August 2nd.
