There's a new face on the Murfreesboro City Council. Eddie Smotherman, owner of Gem in the Box Jewelry, was among the top three receiving votes in the council election. Incumbents Toby Gilley and Ron Washington were both re-elected. The three finished ahead of Vice-Mayor Chris Bratcher by 155 votes.

Gilley says there will be several items coming up for the council to consider...

Gilley hopes to have a proposal heard at the upcoming city council meeting this Thursday to move the municipal elections to coincide with other local, state and federal elections.

Washington says during his next four year term, he wants to continue to build on what he's been doing for the last 14 years...



Vice-Mayor Bratcher has served on the city council since 1988. Washington will now be the longest serving member of the council, first elected in 1998. Gilley was elected in 2000. Typically, the vice-mayor position has been given to the longest serving member of the council.
