Chancellor Robert Corlew has ruled construction of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro must be halted because local officials did not give adequate public notice. The opinion, which was released Tuesday morning, comes after last month's trial in the lawsuit against Rutherford County. In his ruling, Corlew said "After consideration of the law and the evidence presented, the Court finds that the action of the county was not sufficient to provide the type of notice to citizens of the county that such matters were to be presented at the meeting of the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission which should be expected under law." Construction of the mosque began in February and the first phase of the project was expected to be complete by July.
