State Farm Insurance will present a $25,000 grant to local nonprofit Special Kids for its summer day camp, Camp Ability, on Wednesday, June 27, at the Special Kids Investor Luncheon held at North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro.
Camp Ability of Special Kids won the grant in an online voting contest on Facebook through the State Farm Youth Advisory Board Cause An Effect program. Over 3,000 applications were submitted to the board that narrowed the list to 100 finalists. Camp Ability received well over 16,000 votes to secure a spot in the top 40 organizations that received the $25,000 grant.
“We are so thankful to State Farm for this wonderful opportunity,” said Brandon Deal, Director of Camp Ability of Special Kids. “These funds will help us to grow our much-needed program in Rutherford County and the surrounding areas.”
State Farm Agency Field Executive, Geralyn McQuary, will present the grant at the Special Kids Investor Luncheon held during a typical day of Camp Ability. The community is invited to join McQuary and State Farm at 11:30 a.m. for lunch provided by Jim ‘N Nicks Bar-B-Q and for a tour of the summer camp. The luncheon will also feature the testimony of Carol Miesch, parent of camper Katie Miesch, who will share how the program has directly helped her family.
Camp Ability of Special Kids is a summer day camp for children with special needs ages 6-25. The program provides children with special needs an opportunity to be physically active and gain self confidence, social skills, and independence while bonding with others who share in their same challenges. The State Farm grant will allow Camp Ability to expand its life skills program for older campers to volunteer and work at different businesses and nonprofits during camp hours and will allow the organization to add recreation equipment for campers to be more physically active.
The Cause An Effect program is a State Farm crowd-sourced philanthropic initiative which lets communities determine where grant funding is awarded, exclusively through Facebook. Cause An Effect empowers consumers to identify problems in their community, connects local nonprofits to problems they can help solve and provides an opportunity for communities to receive funding to help solve the problems. The program has been inspired by the incredible number of neighborhoods that are coming together to solve a problem or improve their community.
