South Maney Avenue Neighborhood Meeting

In another effort to let residents and business owners in the  South Maney Avenue study area have an opportunity to learn about proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance and the creation of a City Core Overlay (CCO) district, Murfreesboro planners are hosting a neighborhood meeting at 5:00 o'clock Wednesday night, July 25th, in the Patterson Park Community Center at 521 Mercury Boulevard. The meeting will be open to the public and all those interested in the zoning for the South Maney Study Area.

During its regular meeting on May, 2nd, the Planning Staff briefed the Planning Commission members on the proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance and were encouraged to move forward with having this neighborhood meeting.

Murfreesboro Planning Director Joseph Aydelott said, “The upcoming July 25th meeting is an opportunity for property owners, residents and anybody interested in learning about the amendments proposed to create the City Core Overlay (CCO).”

Aydelott explained, "The first 15 to 20 minutes will allow opportunities to see the exhibits, review the handout materials and socialize a bit. Then there will be a formal 30-minute presentation by the Planning Staff, followed by a questions and answers period." He noted that the meeting should be over at least by 7:30 that night.

Public MEETING, not Public HEARING

Aydelott pointed out that this will be a public 'meeting' and not a public ‘hearing’ though he and his staff will ask people to send their thoughts and comments by mail, email, or by responding online.

He said, “We will invite those wanting to discuss how the proposed regulations will apply in particular situations to contact the Planning Staff directly.”

Revitalization of the South Maney Avenue area has been a long process and keeping property owners informed has been one of the primary goals, he said. Holding periodic public meetings has been one way to do that.

“We have been planning this meeting for several months now and it has been discussed at Planning Commission meetings,” Aydelott said. “The May 2 meeting was almost exclusively devoted to the amendments themselves and at that time a tentative calendar was discussed for the adoption of the amendments.”

More Information On Subject

Aydelott noted that he will be on Ron Washington's WGNS' talk radio show at 6:30 Sunday night July 22nd. "The Beat Goes On" is broadcast on FM 100.5, FM 101.9, AM 1450, and worldwide at www.WGNSradio.com. Information will also be on the city’s website and Cable TV channel 3 for Comcast along with AT&T channel 99. Details will also be available on the city’s  Facebook page, which can be accessed from the website’s home page.

After July 4th, signs will be placed throughout the area, he said. An overview of the proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance is available here along with a Questions and Answers pamphlet.

“The July 25 meeting will be an opportunity for property owners, residents, and anybody interested in learning about the proposed changes to amendments to the zoning ordinance to create the City Core Overlay (CCO) district, Aydelott said.
