The new mosque being built by the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro will not receive a certificate of occupancy. Chancellor Robert Corlew did not approve a request filed on Monday that would have allowed for the county to issue the certificate. Corlew ruled that the county failed to give proper public notice about the construction of the mosque prior to its approval in 2010. The Islamic Center will now have to reapply for a construction permit, even though their building is nearly complete.
Now, other construction permits may be called into question because the county often advertised public notices the same way. The Islamic Center posted on their website, “Thousands of permits have been granted using the same process and voiding ours might result in voiding other permits as well.”
