A Murfreesboro teen won first place for the middle school division in Scenic Tennessee's photo contest. 13-year old Matthew Cole Farris (pictured above) is in the seventh grade at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School here in Murfreesboro.

The winning picture deals with Civil War history, especially popular during this sesquicentennial year. He said, " My mission was to depict how deadly the Civil War was and how the weapons used caused destruction." 

Farris told WGNS News, "I'm ready to get on with life and can't wait to attend MTSU". He enjoys forensics and plans to get his degree from the university's College of Mass Communications.
