Major Monday Night Fire At Poplar Village Apartments...1 Injury!

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department's Districts 4 and 6 and Rescue Company 7 responded to the Poplar Village Apartments at 1414 Poplar Avenue at around 5:38 Monday night (11/5/2012). The first responder reported that heavy black smoke was billowing from the roof. District 4 immediately called for another engine and rescue company. (District 1 and Rescue 8)

One Injury

One resident of the complex was transported to a local hospital with non-threatening injuries as a result of the Monday evening blaze.

Assistant Fire Marshal Tracy Summar was called to investigate. "At this time, the fire appears to be accidental, but will remain under investigation." 

Quick Work By MF&R

Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire that was spreading rapidly throughout the L building were on-the-scene late into the night watching for hotspots.

Initial reports from Acting Shift Commander Jamie Bigelow were that two units received extensive fire damage and four units received smoke damage only.

Eight persons were displaced.
