For the second time in the past two weeks, unknown thieves have hit a cell phone tower in search of copper wiring. This time, thieves hit an AT&T tower on Memorial Boulevard. Last week, thieves stole copper from a Verizon Wireless tower near Love’s Truck Stop off of I-24 in Rutherford County.
According to the most recent police report, the culprit or culprits behind the thefts may have ties to the cell phone company or management company that oversees the tower sites. The report shows that in the theft that was reported on November 5th, that the locks to enter the fence surrounding the tower were not damaged, indicating the thief had a key.
