A 20-year old mother was arrested by police because her children were not wearing seatbelts when involved in an injury accident on East Clark Blvd. at the New Lascassas Highway on Wednesday. According the report, LaToya Herrin was driving the car when she wrecked. Herrin and her two small children, both under the age of 5, were transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
Once at the hospital, police asked Herrin if her children were properly restrained when the wreck occurred. Herrin evidently told police they were restrained. Soon after, a nurse at MTMC told the officer that one of the children told her that they were not wearing seatbelts. The mother then admitted to the police that neither of her two children were restrained.
As a result of the investigation and the injury of the two children involved in the wreck, the mother was charged with two counts of felony reckless endangerment for not restraining her children.
Reports indicate the children and the mother did not suffer from life threatening injuries.
