From 10AM to 5PM This coming Saturday local teen non profit S.A.V.E. (Sustaining A Village Everyday) will be holding their second annual “S.A.V.E. Arts and Crafts Bazaar” for Haiti at The Gateway Village, 830 N Thompson Lane. Over 50 hand picked booths from all over Middle Tennessee. Donations will be taken at the door and all of the money raised from booth sales and the bazaar itself will go straight to the teen’s annual goal of $25,000 for their village of Boukeron, Haiti.
They will also be partnering with another craft fair, the Shabby Lanes Shops Holiday Splendor Trunk Show being held at the Lane Agri-Park Community Center 315 John R Rice Blvd. This allows two great holiday events on one great date!
About S.A.V.E.
S.A.V.E. was founded nearly two years ago by a group of six local high schoolers, Tayllor Cochrane, Shelby Hardison, Laura Bean, Mary Cate Ownby, Tony Allen and Brock Baker and their adult sponsor, Kristi Cochrane. Their goal was to raise $25,000 in a year in order to “Sustain” the village of Boukeron, Haiti. In 2011, the teens raised over $27,000 through various fundraising events and put their money into action during the summer of 2012. The teens took a trip to the village of Boukeron to create a goat husbandry program, investigate a place for a well, experience the church they had built, and learn of new village needs that they could help the people fill.
The new group of teens still includes Tayllor Cochrane and Shelby Hardison, but has added Madison Bivens, Seth Waldecker, Steven Powlis, Jay Hicks, and David Newman. Their hopes are to continue to raise $25,000 or more annually, eventually extending their reach beyond Boukeron, and to allow other teens to follow in their footsteps. The teens plan to visit Boukeron once again in June of 2013.
