On Wednesday's (12/26/2012) WGNS' "Action Line" broadcast, County Mayor Ernest Burgess said Rutherford County's economy is improving.
Building Permits UP 60%
He said construction permits for 2012 were up 60 per cent when compared to the previous year. Burgess also noted that more persons had jobs, especially with the addition of Amazon and Macy's massive facilities along with the thousand new positions brought about with Nissan's battery plant and Leaf electric vehicle assembly facility.
Safety In Schools
County Mayor Burgess interacted with listeners about security in our schools. He noted that plans to add more School Resource Officers to elementary schools was being worked on by the county commission before the Connecticut tragedy occurred.
New Judicial Building In 2-4 Years
County Mayor Burgess also stated:
Again, he estimated that a judicial structure would cost $50 to $60-million. The only major school project on the board for 2013 is the completion of the new Stewart's Creek High School.
Fiscal Cliff
The county mayor commented that what's happening now in Washington will determine our future. The fiscal cliff is one of the end results of operating without a real budget. He noted that the federal government has been running this way for several years.
