Acting on a tip that an escaped felon was inside, Murfreesboro police surrounded a home at 1353 Benley Street. This occurred at approximately 10:40 Wednesday morning (1/23/2013).
An officer spotted the suspect, and MPD's Swat Team led the way as the first floor was cleared. The officers then left the home and formed a perimeter around the residence with 25-year old Robert A. Smith barricaded inside.
Police deployed CS gas and Smith was eventually taken into custody. A consensual search of the residence was made. A chrome handgun was found in the sofa and narcotics were discovered upstairs.
Robert A. Smith was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of schedule VI drugs, escape warrant, 3 counts of a capias felony and a phone harassment warrant. He is being held without bond, and his first court appearance is set for April 18th.
