The Riverdale girls will attempt to make school history this week and defend their 2012 state title. The Lady Warriors pounded White County 74-32 to punch their ticket to the BlueCross Basketball Championships for the fourth straight year. They were never challenged by the Warriorettes from Sparta, leading 46-15 at the half. Alexa Middleton led Riverdale with 27 points. Olivia Jones added 11 and Tyisha Petty chipped in 10. The Lady Warriors are winners of their last 55 games, ranked number one in the state and second nationally. The three time state champion will try to make it four, beginning Wednesday. Riverdale will play Brentwood to kick off the Triple-A Tournament at 10 Wednesday morning. WGNS coverage will begin at 9:45am.

The Blackman Lady Blaze bid for a third trip to the BlueCross Basketball Championships in the last five years fell short on the road at Bradley Central. The final score was 55-46. An 11-to-four run in the third quarter by the Bearettes was more than the Lady Blaze could overcome. Blackman attempted to come back, getting it to seven in the last minutes, but Bradley Central hit seven-of-eight free throws to seal the victory. Crystal Dangerfield led the Lady Blaze with 15-points. Jazz Bond and Alex Johnson had 12 and 11 respectfully. It was Blackman's first loss outside of Riverdale all season long. They end with a 26-and-5 record. The Bearettes could be without starting post Rebecca Reuter, who was assessed two technical fouls in the game. By TSSAA rule, she will have to miss two games.
