Job Losses at Nearby AEDC

Two weeks after announcing that the sequester that will force ATA to cut 128 jobs at AEDC, base officials in nearby Coffee County announced the impact of the reduction in federal funding will be worse than previously expected. In a statement released last week, Col. Raymond G. Toth announced that 207 ATA employees will be released from their positions effective this Friday. Those released will include voluntary, involuntary, early retirees, subcontractors, temporary employees and ATA’s corporate partners. ATA employed 1,884 people as of last week, a figure that includes its subcontractors. Kathy Gattis, ATA’s director of public affairs, said the additional job losses are partially due to the fact that some of their customers opted to push testing further down the road, so there’s not as much government testing. Meanwhile, Air Force’s civilian employees at AEDC will be required to take a day off until the middle of June.
