As part of National Nurses Week, Middle Tennessee Medical Center announced its 2013 Nurses Awards. Honorees included:

  • Kevin Summar, RN, Rising Star Award – This award is bestowed on a new nurse who displays dedication and excellence beyond years of experience. Summar began his career at MTMC two years ago as a nurse extern. After graduation, he transitioned to a nursing position in the emergency department.
  • Bill Martin, RN, Clinical Expert Award – This award is granted to a special nurse who is known as "the go to nurse" when someone needs a hand or advice. Martin began his career with MTMC almost ten years ago and usually serves as the charge nurse for his unit.
  • Amber Abrahamson, RN, Nightingale Award – The MTMC Nightingale Award recognizes and honors the dedication, commitment and initiative of outstanding nurses. Abrahamson joined MTMC in 2009 and within six months of being hired as a full time nurse, she became the charge nurse on the night shift. She recently participated in developing and teaching a program for new nurses.
  • Lori Boyd, RN, Creative Writing Contest Winner – Every year during Nurse’s Week, nurses submit creative writing samples focused on the field of nursing. Boyd submitted both a humorous ode and a serious reflection that earned her this award.  She has been with MTMC for six years, currently in the role of house supervisor.

“These nurses are invaluable members of our patient care team and have been called to serve in this highly-regarded profession,” said Kelly Miles, chief nursing office at MTMC. “They serve our patients with compassion and dedication. We are thankful every day for their very special talents and we are honored to have them as members of the MTMC family.”
