An arrest was made on Tuesday, July 2 in the murder of Murad Abulola, age 22. Mr. Abulola was the victim of a homicide that occurred Thursday, June 27 at approximately 6:15 p.m. at his residence located on 657 Mable Drive.
One suspect was placed into custody on Tuesday evening. Wendill “Matthew” Ford, age 19, is charged with homicide, the unlawful possession of a weapon, and tampering with evidence.
Detective Sergeant David Durham stated, “Due to alert citizens who contacted police of suspicious activity and diligent work by the La Vergne Police Department, we were able to make an arrest in this case." The detective also said, “While we have many tools that are used in investigations, definitely the best asset is community cooperation with law enforcement. I want to thank everyone who came forward and assisted us during these past few days.”
Police Chief Mike Walker expressed his gratitude on behalf of the victim’s family by stating, “It is simply horrifying when a loved one is lost to violence. I am proud of the Police Department for their hard work, dedication, and relentless pursuit of the perpetrator of this crime. For the past two years, I have had the honor and privilege to work with some of the finest law enforcement professionals in my 37 plus years. I am extremely grateful for all their hard work and passion to serve the citizens of La Vergne and keep our community safe.”
The investigation is ongoing and more possible charges could follow.
